Western Music Sampler Series – Mar 22
| March 22, 2009 |
Call of the West takes the stage at 1:00 p.m. Exquisite harmonies, top-notch musicianship and on-stage fun add spice to lively tunes, selections played on several different instruments, and classic western songs when Call of the West is on stage. Jeanne and Jerome are writers as well as performers, and will render some of these new pieces – on a wide range of topics inspired by the Great American West. Jerome will also sprinkle in a little cowboy poetry for a change of pace.
Besides both singing lead and harmony vocals, they possess formidable instrumental skills. Jerome is the 2006 Merle Travis National Thumb-picking Champion, Jeanne is the 2008 Western Music Association Instrumentalist of the Year. She was also a finalist for the 2008 Western Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year, and they were both were finalists for 2008 WMA Duo/Group of the Year.
Jeanne & Jerome have performed together since 1989, and will play a variety of instruments, including: guitars, mandolin, steel guitar, concertina, and harmonica. (No pre-recorded tracks for their show – they play all their instruments live on stage!)
They regularly appear at western music festivals, acoustic live music events of all kinds, community get-togethers, schools, libraries, RV resorts and rallies across the U.S. and abroad. They are featured on RFD-TV’s “Midwest Country Theater” and “Best of America by Horseback”, and also work as harmony singers and backup musicians for a number of western and country performers, including legendary country music star Lynn Anderson – when she performs at western music festivals. Jeanne & Jerome also produce recordings for a variety of artists as well.
Their own recording projects include two duo albums, two classic country albums with their good friends, Tex & Mary Schutz, a solo original music album by Jeanne, a gospel album and a solo thumbpicking album by Jerome. They are currently working on a new project together, and another solo project by Jeanne. They are members of the Oklahoma Arts Council and Mid-America Arts Alliance touring rosters, and travel the country and the world, entertaining and teaching youngsters of all ages with their music. Besides the winter 08-09 tour, Jeanne & Jerome recently returned from six weeks in New Zealand this past December and January with Tex & Mary Schutz.
