Western Music Sampler Series – Mar 29
| March 29, 2009 | ||
Mike Moutoux is the featured artist on March 29 at 1:00 p.m. He lives north of Silver City, New Mexico and works on a large ranch south of town. At the ranch, most work is done on horseback using traditional methods. Cattle are worked with horses and ropes just as they were one hundred years ago. “The work out here is tough and the weather in Southwest New Mexico can get pretty hot, but the scenery is fantastic. Most of the time we can see two or three different mountain ranges depending on where we are. I come home most days pretty tired but with a lot stories about things that happened that day and what sorts of things we saw.”
Mike has been performing cowboy poetry and music since 2002 and is an audience favorite wherever he goes. Known as “New Mexico’s Most Enchanting Cowboy” he strives to take his listeners to places and feelings they may not get to any other way. “I want to put them as close to being in the saddle as words and music allow-and at the same time leave ‘em laughing.” he says. In 2006, Mike was nominated for “Cowboy Poet of the Year” with the Western Music Association and performed at their festival in Albuquerque. In 2007, his CD, Headin’ Home was nominated for “Cowboy Poetry CD” of the Year.
Mike has performed at schools and festivals across the country including the Cochise Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering In Sierra Vista, AZ, The Durango Cowboy Gathering in Durango CO, The Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering in Prescott, AZ, and Rex Allen Days in Willcox, AZ. One of his poems, “Spirits Still Remain”, has been archived by the National Park System in a time capsule after he performed it for the 100th Anniversary of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument.
You can find him on the web at www.enchantingcowboy.com. There you’ll find photos, poems, notes from the ranch, his schedule, music and interviews.
