Old Tucson will adopt a seasonal operating calendar beginning in June for the remainder of the year. Similar to theme parks throughout most of theU.S., Old Tucson will conduct full operations during peak outdoor seasons. OldTucsonis open daily from 10am to 6pm through April 29.

Beginning in May, park hours will be 10am to 5pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as well as Memorial Day. From June through September, Old Tucson will be open by reservation only for groups interested in guided tours and private events such as weddings, corporate functions, and company picnics. In October, Old Tucson will re-open to the general public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through December with special holiday hours during Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks. Nightfall begins September 28 and will be open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through October 28. For a detailed overview of operational days, please visit our Hours/Prices page.

This operational change will allow Old Tucson time to perform needed maintenance, make facilities improvements, and prepare for Nightfall, the popular month-long Halloween event. OldTucsonwill make every effort to retain employees for group events, facilities operations, and Nightfall preparations.

“Summer in Tucsonis the least active time of year in terms of visitors. Consolidating our operational resources during our peak season will allow us to provide an optimal guest experience. We have reviewed our operating schedule and determined that our best opportunity to entertain guests is when our climate is more welcoming,” stated Old Tucson General Manager and CEO Pete Mangelsdorf. “We do have several private group events and weddings scheduled during the off-season and will continue to book that business. Additionally, several productions have expressed interested in filming during the summer months.”

Old Tucson is proud to include the Escaramuzas Florecitas Del Desierto in Wild West Days. These lovely ladies between the ages of 10 and 40 – keep the tradition of the “Escaramuza” and the “Charreria” alive and authentic. The group performs precision drills at gallop speeds and complex maneuvers all while impressively riding side saddle. Eight riders or more circle, fan, cross, pass and spiral to traditional Mariachi music. These ladies follow strict rules in accordance to their beautiful attire which consists of the “Adelita” style dresses, boots, spurs and sombreros. The Florecitas compete professionally at State, Regional and National Levels of Competition and also perform social events and parades, including the Tucson Rodeo Parade.

Viva Arizona Folklorico

Baile Folklorico is the national representation for Mexican dance. The women wear a ranchero design dress with brightly colored ruffled skirts trimmed with contrasting colored ribbons and clog-like heeled shoes to facilitate the stomping sound. The men wear big sombreros and traditional Spanish charro suits with silver studs on the pants and a big bow for a tie. If the costume doesn’t capture your attention the dance will! Jarabes, which means “sweet syrup,” are the best known dances locally for their flirtatious nature and themes of courtship. When accompanied by mariachis, Folklorico dances are loud, hard stomping, and exciting performances. Viva Arizona Folklorico not just a dance but a performance not to be forgotten!

Fast Draw competitors of all ages shoot at targets with wax bullets. The fastest competitors who accurately hit targets are the winners. This sport transports participants and observers alike back to the era of Colt’s release of the Peacemaker in 1873. From that year through the 1890′s, the American West was unlike any other culture in the world. Cowboy Fast Draw Association members recreate it with wax bullets and the best equipment available of the 1800′s: single action revolvers and center fire cartridges. Fast draw competitors are timed to see who is the fastest as at drawing and successfully hitting targets while shooting single action .45 caliber western style six shooters.

The completion of Old Tucson’s much anticipated Heritage Square will be celebrated with a Heritage & Harvest Festival on Friday, November 25 thru Sunday, November 27. Events hours are 10 am to 5 pm each day.

The design of the 12 new Heritage Square building sets was led by Art Director Gene Rudolf, credited with creating sets for more than 20 films including Young Guns II, The Great Gatsby, The Right Stuff, Raging Bull, Marathon Man, Three Days of the Condor.

“We are pleased to present this new addition, reminiscent of the look and feel of Old Tucson before the 1995 fire, to our guests. The empty space in town square is now filled with fully-dressed movie quality sets that pay homage to Old Tucson’s impressive and proud film history,” said Old Tucson CEO and General Manager Pete Mangelsdorf.

Heritage Square also provides the perfect backdrop to Old Tucson’s new informative Living History presentations depicting what life in the Old West was really like. Hosted by period characters, these presentations introduce guests to Schools on the Frontier, Sheriffs of the Old West, and History of the Stagecoach, among others. A special holiday presentation, Christmas in the Old West, discusses Christmas traditions, decorations and gift giving.

Throughout the weekend, the Heritage & Harvest Festival will celebrate local culture and heritage with displays and discussions. Guests will learn about the Buffalo Soldiers from 10th Calvary E Troop Tucson and the contributions of the Chinese to Tucson’s rich history. Harvest elements include a farmer’s market featuring displays and produce from local farms, and products made with local ingredients. Farms scheduled to be on hand include San Xavier Farmers Cooperative, Avalon Organic Gardens, Farm & Ranch, Wilhelm Family Vineyards, Arizona Cactus Ranch and more. Old Tucson Living History presentations and signature entertainment also will be featured during the 3-day event.

The Grand Opening of Heritage Square is scheduled for mid-day on Friday. The celebration will include a color guard on horseback representing the various cultures contributing to local history as well as a ribbon cutting by an Old Tucson dignitary. The whole town will turn out for this historic occasion!

The festival is included with regular Old Tucson admission: $16.95 for adults and $10.95 for children ages 4-11. Old Tucson is pleased to extend an Arizona Resident Discount through the end of the year. Arizona residents who purchase an adult admission and provide a valid Arizona ID will receive an additional admission of equal or lesser value free.

Come join the celebration!
