Cowboy/Cowgirl Day Camp
The goal of this one-day program is to enrich each cowboy or cowgirl’s ability, knowledge and enjoyment of horses through a safe and structured sequence of experiences. During the session, each camper (age 10 years and up) is assigned a horse to care for, ride and become friends with.
Experience a full day with our horses including:
- Introduction to horse care
- 2-hour trail ride
- Arena Riding: Learn basic arena riding skills
- Arena Games: Barrel racing, pole bending, flag basics

Old Tucson Studios offers a full range of educational adventures to complement your classroom history, social studies, science, summer program or theater curriculum. Show your students Old Tucson Studios from a new perspective or bring the adventure to them with a presentation at your site.

Choose one or more educational adventures geared for students in grades K-8 or 9-12.
Grades K-8 Adventures
Life of a Miner: A look at Arizona mining and minerals. Experience a day in the life of miner in the 1880’s including a look at clothing, nourishment, tools and much more. Students will explore gems and minerals in our Toltec Mine in this fun and exciting program. Students will enjoy a trying their hand at panning for gold.

Mountain Men: Fur Trapping in the 1800’s. Experience the rugged and challenging life of a fur trapper in the 1800’s. Students will examine a sampling of tools, clothing, and food.

Adobe Brick Making: Be up to your elbows in history with this program on the building techniques used by the Papago Indians. Mold your own bricks using dirt and straw. (Availability subject to weather conditions)

Hageotah (Storyteller): History of the Native American Storyteller. Students will sit with our own hageotah or storyteller and listen to tales of the Apache, Hopi, Navajo and Tohono O’odham. Youngsters will also learn Indian signs and some Indian words associated with the storyteller.

A Visit to The General Store: Aided by 19th century wares and drygoods for your inspection, our costumed storekeeper will introduce your students to this uniquely American institution, which gave flavor and personality to the old west. Your students will learn about its multifaceted role in the community and how the general store contributed to the area’s settlement. This program is an engaging way to learn about worldwide trade, household economics, pricing systems, profit margins, and customer service – 19th century style. Grades 9-12 Adventures
Behind the Scenes: Sound, Lights & Special Effects. Find out what it’s like behind a real working movie set by touring our Mission Set and Palace Saloon. Students will talk to a trained technician who will describe the various tasks that make Old Tucson shows so amazing. They will understand what a Foley artist is and does, and also learn about soundboards, special effects, gunpowder and explosive effects.
